Ube Espresso Martini

Description

Ube Espresso Martini works because ube naturally sits comfortably beside coffee, cocoa and vanilla flavours. Vodka keeps the base clean, coffee liqueur adds depth, fresh espresso creates bitterness and foam, and ube syrup supplies colour, sweetness and a soft nutty character.

The recipe deliberately avoids cream so the espresso can still build a proper crema-like head. The result is recognisably an Espresso Martini, just with a richer dessert-like finish.

Ingredients

  • 40 ml Vodka
  • 20 ml Coffee Liqueur
  • 30 ml Espresso (freshly brewed and slightly cooled)
  • 15 ml Ube syrup
  • 3 pieces Coffee Beans (for garnish)
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Brew the espresso and let it stand for about a minute so it is hot but not boiling.
  2. Add vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso and ube syrup to a shaker.
  3. Fill with ice and shake very hard for 15 seconds to build foam.
  4. Fine strain into a chilled martini glass.
  5. Let the foam settle for a few seconds, then garnish with three coffee beans.
