Poinsettia

Description

The Poinsettia is a light, elegant cocktail that has become a Christmas brunch and holiday party staple. Named after the iconic red poinsettia flower associated with Christmas, the drink mirrors its vibrant colour with cranberry juice. The recipe blends Champagne (or another quality sparkling wine) with cranberry juice and a splash of triple sec or orange liqueur, creating a balance of crisp bubbles, tart fruitiness, and a gentle citrus lift.

The Poinsettia emerged in the mid-20th century as part of the Champagne cocktail trend, following in the footsteps of classics like the Mimosa. Its ease of preparation, festive presentation, and refreshing character made it a favourite at seasonal gatherings. Today it’s often served as a lighter option alongside richer Christmas cocktails like Eggnog or Mulled Wine.
