Corpse Reviver No. 2

Description

The Corpse Reviver No. 2 is one of those classics that sounds like a gimmick until you taste it. Gin, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc and lemon create a pale, elegant sour, while a tiny rinse or dash of absinthe gives the drink its ghostly herbal edge.

It was part of the old family of morning-after “reviver” drinks, but today it works best as a sharp aperitif. The magic is in the balance: citrus, orange, wine-like softness and that faint aniseed shadow at the finish. Too much absinthe and it becomes a dare; just enough and it becomes unforgettable.
