Coconut Ember Negroni

Description

Coconut Ember Negroni keeps the bitter, spirit-forward architecture of a Negroni intact, then adds two controlled accents: a small measure of mezcal for smoke and toasted coconut syrup for a warm, nutty finish.

The trick is restraint. Coconut should soften the edges of Campari without making the drink dessert-sweet, while mezcal should sit behind the gin rather than dominate it.

Ingredients

  • 25 ml Gin
  • 5 ml Mezcal
  • 25 ml Campari
  • 25 ml Sweet Vermouth
  • 5 ml Toasted coconut syrup
  • 1 piece Orange Peel (for garnish)
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Add gin, mezcal, Campari, sweet vermouth and toasted coconut syrup to a mixing glass.
  2. Fill with ice and stir for 20 to 25 seconds until properly chilled and diluted.
  3. Strain over a large cube in a chilled rocks glass.
  4. Express an orange peel over the drink and use it as the garnish.
