Brown Butter Old Fashioned

Description

Brown Butter Old Fashioned leans into bourbon’s caramel and vanilla notes with a measured brown-butter cordial that brings toasted hazelnut-like depth. Angostura adds baking spice and orange bitters sharpen the finish.

This should still drink like an Old Fashioned, not a dessert cocktail. The cordial replaces the sugar element rather than being added on top of it.

Ingredients

  • 50 ml Bourbon
  • 8 ml Brown Butter Cordial
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 1 dash Orange bitters
  • 1 piece Orange Peel (for garnish)
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Add bourbon, brown-butter cordial and bitters to a mixing glass.
  2. Fill with ice and stir for 20 to 25 seconds.
  3. Strain over one large cube in a rocks glass.
  4. Express a wide orange peel over the surface and rub it around the rim.
  5. Drop in the peel and serve.
