Old Fashioned
Description
The Old Fashioned is one of the oldest and most revered cocktails, known for its simplicity and rich, smooth flavour. It's a whiskey-based cocktail, typically bourbon or rye, balanced by sugar and bitters, and served with a large ice cube. The drink is subtly sweet with hints of citrus, making it a timeless classic for whiskey lovers.
Ingredients
• 60 ml Bourbon or Rye Whiskey
• 1 sugar cube (or 5 ml simple syrup)
• 2 to 3 dashes Angostura bitters
• Orange peel (for garnish)
• Ice (preferably one large cube)
Instructions
Muddle the sugar: In a glass, muddle the sugar cube with a few dashes of Angostura bitters and a small splash of water, until the sugar is mostly dissolved. If using simple syrup, simply mix it with the bitters.
Add the whiskey: Pour the whiskey over the sugar and bitters mixture.
Stir and add ice: Add a large ice cube to the glass and stir for about 20 to 30 seconds to chill and dilute the drink slightly.
Garnish: Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink by twisting it, then place the peel in the glass as a garnish.
