Cocktail recipe

Grumpy Old Man recipe.

A short bourbon and amaretto drink with orange and aromatic bitters. Nutty, oaky, slightly grumpy and much better than it pretends to be.

Grumpy Old Man

Description

The Grumpy Old Man sounds like a joke, but the drink itself has real charm: a dark, nutty bourbon sipper with enough bitters to make it feel older, drier and more interesting than a standard sweet whiskey mix. Bourbon gives warmth, amaretto brings almond richness, and two styles of bitters stop the whole thing becoming too soft.

It is the sort of cocktail for someone who says they do not want anything fussy, then quietly enjoys every sip. Stir it properly, serve it over good ice, and you get orange, oak, spice and toasted sweetness in a short glass with a bad mood and a good finish.
