The Vieux Carre was created in the 1930s at the Carousel Bar in New Orleans. The name means "Old Square" in French, referring to the citys French Quarter.

This rich and spirit-forward cocktail is a blend of rye whiskey, cognac, sweet vermouth, and bitters, offering a smooth and balanced drinking experience.

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Rye whiskey
  • 30 ml Cognac
  • 30 ml Sweet Vermouth
  • 10 ml Benedictine
  • 2 dashes Peychaud Bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 1 piece Lemon twist (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Stir all ingredients with ice.
  2. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
  3. Garnish with a lemon twist.
